Hot tubs are the must-have for summer 2020/21! Over the years Lay-Z-Spa by Bestway has dominated the market with their engineering and patented pumps and filters.
We all have Lay-Z-Spas by Bestway here at Wezaggle, but for you to fully enjoy the hot tub experience there are some lay-z-spa accessories you MUST have to experience the hot tub experience throughout the year!
The Lay-Z-Spa Basics!
The basic accessories for Bestway Lay-Z-Spas are filters, Chlorine tablets and floaters! These are the basic accessories to help you enjoy a clean and fresh hot tub water all year round! The trick with these hot tubs is to keep them topped up with chlorine and filter any particles in the water that might cause algae and yellowing of the water.
If you are not testing your hot tub water then it will go beyond the point of no return and you will have to empty 1000 litres because it has gone a funky colour and smells stagnant!
- Replace the filter on a weekly basis
- Use a floater and never granules
- Place a 20g tablet in each floater x 40g weekly
- Use tests strips for PH & chlorine
- Always leave the filter on when in use!
You can spend a fortune of chlorine and the many testing strips available on the web. We have used the Clearwater package and spent over £30/40 on it and all we ended up using was the chlorine because PH levels from taps in the UK are great for hot tubs! As long as you keep the chlorine topped up your water will last many months!
The chlorine we use come in tablet form and costs around £23 for 50 x 20gram tablets! These are perfect for a floater and require one in each that will last a few days before they melt to nothing!
Granules are bad for hot tubs, especially if you’re using an above ground hot tub from Bestway. These Lay-Z-Spas are made out of plastic/rubber and will burn this if chlorine granules sit at the bottom of your spa! We have known reviewers who have used chlorine granules and notice their hot tub was leaking because it was burnt by chlorine.
- ONLY use tablet and NOT granules!
- 2 or 3 20g tablets a week will keep your spa water clean and fresh
- Avoid granules due to chlorine burn on these rubber spas
- Shop chlorine tablets
Filters should be changed on a weekly basis and can be cleaned a re-used, we clean ours and put them in the dishwasher/washing machine and they come out good as new! You can purchase a pack of three for £14 from this supplier. Replacing the filter in these Bestway models is key for crystal clear water, over a six-hour period you are filtering thousands of litres of water through these devices!
- Replace on a weekly basis; depending on the number of users!
- Filters can be cleaned and re-used
- Shop Lay-Z-Spa filters
Floaters are a basic necessity for the Lay-Z-Spa Bestway models because you should not be using granules in these models. We use two floaters with one Suds tablet in each. We replace them weekly or whenever they have dispersed. You should receive a floater with your Bestway Lay-Z-Spa but if you do not or want to use double floaters then here is a supplier we use!
- Use two floaters with a 20g chlorine tablet in each
- Every lay-z-spa should come with its own floater

If you have ever sat in a Lay-Z-Spa and you’re taller than 6.5 feet then you will discover that after an hour of sitting with your head tilted back can cause some discomfort. But, using a headrest that neatly sits of the back of your hot tub that can also be moved will give you head support so you can relax that better!
Cup & Food Holder
We all like a cheeky drink or a snack in the spa, but holding a drink or plate of food can become tedious and might even end up in your spa water. With a food and plate holder, you have a drink or a nibble and place your cups, glasses and plates on this without asking someone to pass your drink or put it down! They really are convenient and totally adds to the experience especially in the evening or socializing!
All hot tubs from Lay-Z-Spa have a padded floor so if your placing your hot tub on decking or a patio you will not feel the grooves under your feet. But, over time this padding seems to reduce rapidly, so adding your own padded matt under your hot tub before inflating it will give you extra protection and will feel much more comfortable!
Hot Tub Covers/Canopy
If you would like more privacy when enjoying your hot tub experience then there are many options for you to choose from. Some hot tub covers specifically made for the Bestway brand and cost upwards of £100 but will fit snugly around your Lay-Z-Spa.
If you are looking for a cheaper option then we would recommend a gazebo that fits around your spa that has curtains for total privacy! Here are a few options for a cheaper Lay-Z-Spa canopy/gazibo!
LED lights have come a long way in the last few years with Lay-Z-Spa offering their own LED floater that is bright and extremely powerful. We use strip lighting for our hot tub bu
- LED floaters are great for evening entertainment
- Underwater LED lights are also great when the sun goes down!
Hot Tub Conclusion
Keeping your hot tub or Lay-Z-Spa by Bestway in tip-top condition is key to having clean, fresh and clear water! If you are not using chlorine then your spa water will spoil and become a smelly goop.
If you’re using the filter, chlorine and following your advice on Lay-Z-Spa accessories then you will have a spa that will last all year round and hours of relaxation and fun!
Happy Hot tubbing 😉
