Benefits Of Masonry Creams?

If you want to protect your home without actually painting it then a masonry cream is something every homeowner should use. Preserving your masonry walls and making your home more aesthetics while protecting the outside of your home for many years.

  • Avoid damp and algae through rain or moisture retention
  • Preserve your masonry walls from the elements
  • Protect your external Bricks and reduce crumbling
  • Great for render, stone and lime walls
  • Improve the aesthetics of your brickwork

The Best Masonry Creams

When it comes to painting your home you do not want to use an inferior product that is not going to achieve the job advertised. I have many years of experience with a wide range of brands that all promise the best results. In this section, I will reveal the brand I know works great and will last the test of time.

Stormdry Masonry Cream – No1

The Stormdry Masonry Cream
The Stormdry Masonry Cream

Stormdry is currently the best masonry cream because it soaks deep into the brick or masonry wall while protecting against moisture, algae growth while preserving at the same time. We have chosen this product because I found it lasted far longer when compared to alternative brands.

The majority of masonry creams will look great for the first few months, but as soon as the UV levels increase over the summer months you will notice your cream degrading.

What Stormdry has created is a formula that protects the year-round because it soaks deep and is less affected by the sun’s rays. Protect your home, shed or garage all year round with the Stormdry 25 years one-coat guarantee.

Masonry Cream Alternatives

If you are looking to save money and create your masonry seal from home then there is an option not many people use anymore. It’s a far cheaper option and works the same as the other creams being sold.

  • 1 Litre of PVA Glue
  • 1 litre of water
  • Mix and you have a masonry cream

This PVA mixture is used for sealing concrete, bricks, cement, stone and all other masonry walls. Once dry the milky residue will go clear and create a barrier between your masonry wall and the year-round elements.

Although this mixture may not last 25 years, it’s a cheaper alternative that lasts about five years, depending on the direction of your house against the sun.

So you might have to top up this seal every 5 years. It’s simple to apply just use a natural roller and you can cover a large wall in minutes. This brick seal can be used on any type of masonry wall inside and outside the home.

Before brick seals and masonry creams were marketed to homeowners people were using this cheap seal on all their masonry surfaces.

TOP TIP: This PVA & water mix also creates one of the best masonry primers that work every time!

Applying Your Masonry Cream

Applying your masonry cream is a simple process that can be done with a roller and large brush to get to any areas the roller cannot. If you are painting your house then be sure to repair any defects before applying your masonry cream. Once you apply your cream you cannot clean any cement away or patch any blown mortar joints.

  1. Clean your bricks or masonry wall
  2. You can use a brick acid that will bring their colour back
  3. Remove any moss and algae with a stiff brush
  4. Patch any blown mortar, cracks and broken bricks
  5. Check the airflow making sure your airbricks are clear
  6. Cover the floor with a sheet because this stuff will not come off easily
  7. Use a roller or a brush and remember to always start at the top

TOP NOTE: Masonry creams will leave a white residue when initially applied to your wall. Once this solution has soaked into your walls and dried any milky residue will dry clear.

Conclusion – Masonry Creams

Masonry creams are rarely used by homeowners because they either do not know they exist or believe their masonry walls do not deserve an extra layer of protection.

I cream all my masonry walls, it makes them look much cleaner and will keep them looking great for many years. If you do not want to invest the money then the homemade masonry cream works very similarly to the leading masonry brands.

Happy Painting 😉
